PROGRAM SUPERVISOR: Regional Director for Student Services
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Valid Georgia School Counselor certificate
- Working knowledge of high school school counseling
- High school experience preferred
- Excellent knowledge of mental health concerns of teenagers and young adults
- Ability to take direction and perform tasks independently
DUTIES:
Student Services
- Attend and participate in monthly Student Services Meetings as part of the site student services team.
- Regularly communicate with Mentors and Mentor Coordinator to be aware of student needs and concerns.
- Make referrals to School Social Worker as necessary.
- Collaborate with other student services staff (Career Specialist, Social Worker, Mentor Coordinator, Student Services Manager) to plan and implement activities to meet student needs and site goals. Activities may include Senior Night; College Night; Career Night; FTE Nights; Financial Aid Workshops; FAFSA Workshops; Job Information Workshops; Dual Enrollment Night.
Academic Guidance/Enrollment
- Conduct initial evaluation of new student transcripts and evaluate credits needed for graduation and then create the graduation checklist.
- Meet with entering students and parent/guardian(s) and facilitate orientation/enrollment.
- Assign new courses for entering students.
- Assign appropriate courses for students who complete courses per graduation requirements and facilitate course completion forms.
- Maintain communication with students about what courses they are taking and why.
- Maintain a “Hot List” of students nearing graduation and collaborate with other Student Services staff to provide intensive support through graduation.
- Create Senior Grad Review data in Infinite Campus to monitor progress toward graduation.
- Engage in conversations with students and parents regarding educational and career planning.
- Attend 504/MTSS/HEAL meetings as needed.
Postsecondary and Career Guidance
- Counsel students about post-secondary plans and assist them with necessary tests such as ASVAB, Compass, SAT, ACT, PSAT, and ACCUPLACER. Arrange for fee waivers, if necessary, with the help from Regional Student Services Coordinator and work to ensure that students sit for the tests.
- Assist in the monitoring of dual enrolled students to identify and remove barriers and to intervene with appropriate support as needed. Be the liaison between Foothills and the colleges where our students are dual enrolled.
- Assist students with access to scholarship and financial aid opportunities.
- Regularly assist students, individually or in groups, with developing academic, career and social emotional/social skills, goals and plans.
Student Support
- Provide mental health support to students in crisis and assist with Suicide Intervention Plan work when necessary.
- Identify students with severe health or mental health needs who may need services through HEAL (Hospital or Home Environment Access to Learning) and connect the MTSS/504 Coordinator at your site and the student to initiate these services.
- Assist in communication with parent/guardian(s) as appropriate to support students.
- Serve as the point of contact for any REACH scholars.
Internal Support and Professional Development
- Provide Site Director with appropriate data as requested.
- Use available technology resources to enhance the school counseling program and stay up-to-date on all state requirements.
- Participate in professional development activities to improve knowledge and skills.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Site Director.
